Paid Inclusion FAQs

For answers to frequently asked questions about Search Engine Optimization, please select one of the links below:

What is Paid Inclusion? (and how does it differ from paid search?)

Paid inclusion (PI) is a program which allows site owners to submit individual pages to a search engine for inclusion into its index. Web pages submitted to the engines in this manner are typically mixed into the general organic search results.

Advertisers pay a fixed cost per click for the service, based on their site’s subject matter.

Unlike paid search, paid inclusion programs do not guarantee that submitted pages will appear for a desired keyword. Instead, site owners are simply paying to guarantee that their pages will be included and regularly updated in the engines’ index.

Does paying for inclusion guarantee my website a higher ranking?

No. Paid Inclusion only guarantees that an advertiser’s content will be included in the search engine’s index. Paid inclusion pages are subject to the same relevancy requirements as pages that are included in a search engine’s main index.

What are the benefits of Paid Inclusion?

There are several benefits of PI:

  • Guaranteed inclusion – All pages that an advertiser submits through a PI program are guaranteed to be included within a search engine’s index.

  • Complete index of pages – Search engine spiders are not able to read certain types of websites, including those with dynamic or Flash-based pages. Additionally, spiders sometimes overlook or are unable to find all pages on a website. PI gives site owners the control to include all desired pages.

  • Frequent refresh – Paid Inclusion allows site owners to frequently change the content stored in a search engine’s index, so that it matches what is live on the site. Without paid inclusion, search engines can take weeks or sometimes months to return to a site and refresh the information in their databases.

  • Tracking – Search Engines that offer paid inclusion typically give advertisers the ability to track their clicks.

  • Control Messaging – When site owners submit pages through paid inclusion, they can also submit the titles and descriptions associated with each individual page that will appear within search results. Paid inclusion represents the only way to have guaranteed control over the content a user sees when they read through a search results page

How does Reprise Media manage Paid Inclusion?

Reprise Media handles the end to end process of generating and managing a paid inclusion campaign.

  • First, we use our proprietary site spidering technology to generate an initial index of your pages.

  • Next, our client services team reviews and optimizes the raw feed to maximize its potential visibility in the engine. The optimized feed is then submitted to the engine.

  • Reprise Media refreshes and re-submits the feed on a regular basis as our clients’ pages change.
Using PROSuite, our centralized campaign management and reporting platform, we integrate data from client paid inclusion campaigns into our overall campaign reporting.

How should I explain Paid Inclusion to my boss?

Paid inclusion is similar to a whitepages listing in the phone book. While you don’t have control over where the ad is displayed, you can have influence over what is included.
